How to get the fastest wireless charging speeds

So you've just bought a shiny new smartphone which supports fast wireless charging, however when you place it on your wireless charging pad for a top-up, the results are anything but fast. Here's a quick list of the most common ways to make sure you're getting the fastest speeds when charging wirelessly.

Kick your old brick

Your wireless charger can only output as much power as it's being given from the wall adapter. If you're still using that old power brick you've had lying around the house for years, there's a good chance it's only putting out a measly 5 W (or less), which is not enough for fast-charging. Upgrading to at least a 12 W adapter which supports USB-C Power Delivery (such as Moshi's Rewind C USB-C Wall Charger) will supply your wireless pad with all the juice it needs for fast-charging.

Make the right connection

Just like power adapters, older and cheaper cables may not be able to deliver enough power for fast-charging. If your wireless charger uses USB-C, try upgrading the cable to one that supports the USB-C Power Delivery specification, which is specially designed to deliver high levels of power to devices for rapid charging. Follow protocol

A number of smartphone manufacturers use proprietary protocols to deliver fast-charging speeds, meaning if your wireless charger doesn't support these, you'll be stuck with a meagre 5 W of charging output and frustratingly slow charging speeds. Keep your cool

Excess heat is the arch-enemy of wireless charging, as the amount of power a battery will accept for charging reduces as the battery's temperature increases. Use a wireless charger which is well-designed to reduce heat build-up (like Moshi's Q collection) and keep the room at a temperature no higher than 25° C (77° F).
